The reason nothing has worked

Lips aren't skin

Everyone treats lips like a smaller patch of face. They aren't. Structurally they're a different tissue, missing the two things that keep the rest of you moisturised — and that single fact explains every balm that stopped working by lunchtime.

No oil glands. None.

The skin on your face is dense with sebaceous glands producing oil all day. Your lips have none at all. They cannot self-moisturise — not today, not ever, no matter what you do.

A barrier a fraction as thick

The outer layer that holds water in is far thinner on your lips than on your face. Water escapes many times faster, all day, every day. You aren't imagining that they dry out first.

First to crack, last to heal

No protection, constant movement, and saliva that evaporates and takes more moisture with it. A balm that simply adds water back is handing you something you'll lose again by lunchtime.

You already tried this

You were never going to drink your way out of it

Drink more water. That's the advice everybody gets, and it's the reason so many people quietly conclude the problem must be them.

But hydration reaches your lips through a barrier that can't hold onto it. You can drink three litres a day and still peel, because the water leaves as fast as it arrives and there's no oil layer to stop it. The people telling you to hydrate aren't wrong about water — they're wrong about where the leak is.

Lumeria works on the leak.

While you sleep

Eight uninterrupted hours is the entire point

During the day your lips never get left alone. You talk, eat, drink, press them together, lick them without noticing. Every one of those strips off whatever you last applied — which is why the tube lives in your pocket and comes out every hour.

Night is the only stretch where none of that happens. One generous layer before bed and the butters sit undisturbed against the barrier for eight hours, softening the flakes rather than sealing them in.

You wake up with nothing to peel. And when there's nothing to peel, there's nothing to pick.

What the first month actually looks like

No overnight miracle claims. Here's the honest sequence most people report.

Night 1

You wake up and the tightness is gone. Flakes lift off when you wipe rather than tearing. This part is immediate.

Nights 2–5

Cracks close. The split in the middle of the lower lip — the one that reopens every time you smile — stops reopening.

Week 2

The daytime reaching drops off. Most people notice they've gone a whole morning without touching anything — usually without meaning to.

Week 4+

Soft becomes the baseline instead of a good day. Keep going — lips never start making their own oil, so this stays maintenance.

I stopped reaching for it every hour

"I'd been carrying a tube in every coat pocket since I was about fourteen. Three weeks of using this at night and I genuinely forgot to take anything with me to work — that has not happened in my adult life."

    Nothing left to pick at

"The picking was the worst part. If there was a bit of loose skin I could not leave it alone, and then it would bleed. Waking up with smooth lips took the trigger away completely."

The first thing that lasted overnight

"I've used every ointment going and they all wear off. This is the first one still there when I wake up, and my lips are soft rather than sealed under a layer of grease."

Gentle enough that it doesn't sting

"Most lip products burn when your lips are already cracked. There's no menthol in this so it just goes on and stays quiet. That mattered more to me than anything."

Questions people ask before they buy

Straight answers, no hedging.

Most balms are built to add moisture. That's the wrong job. Your lips have no oil glands, so the moisture you add has nothing holding it in — it's gone within the hour, which is why you reapply all day.

Lumeria replaces the oil layer itself with shea, coconut and murumuru butters, then seals it under an occlusive film that stays put for eight hours. You're rebuilding the barrier rather than topping up behind it.

The formula is deliberately plain: butters and emollients, no menthol, no camphor, no salicylic acid, no retinol and no fragrance oils. Those are the ingredients people are usually told to avoid or that sting already-cracked lips.

Pregnancy genuinely does make lips worse for a lot of people, and drinking more water doesn't fix it because the problem isn't how much water you're taking in. As with anything you use while pregnant, run it past your midwife or doctor if you'd like to be certain.

Isotretinoin shrinks oil production across your whole body, and lips — which had no oil glands to begin with — take the worst of it. That's why ointment gets reapplied all day and still isn't enough.

An overnight mask does something a daytime ointment can't: it stays undisturbed for eight hours, which is long enough to soften flakes instead of sealing them in. Most people find the picking stops on its own once there's nothing loose left to pick.

Indirectly, and that's usually enough. Lip licking is a response to a trigger — the tight, dry feeling that makes you wet them, which then evaporates and leaves them drier than before.

Take the tightness away overnight and the trigger fires far less often. Several people describe realising days later that they'd simply stopped, without ever consciously trying to.

You can, and a thin layer works fine under or over other products. But night is where it earns its keep. During the day you talk, eat, drink and press your lips together constantly, and every one of those removes product. Sleep is the only eight-hour stretch where none of that happens.

The jar is 8 g / 0.28 oz. Used nightly as directed, that's roughly three months — you need far less than you would with a balm, because you're applying once rather than a dozen times a day.

You get 30 nights. If your lips aren't noticeably better, email hello@trylumeria.com with your order number and we'll refund you in full — you don't need to send the jar back and you don't need to have finished it.
